At the egotistical age of 5, Jessica asked her mother if she loved her or her father more, certain she knew the answer: her. Instead her mother bent down and looked the little girl in the eye, hands gently resting on each shoulder. She explained that she couldn't help loving her. The love of a mother for her baby is incredibly strong. Then her mother told her the love she had for her daddy was a love of choice, which made it extra special. Of all the people in the world, she chooses him and he chooses her.
Now that Jessica is married, she considers what it takes to stay married, and in love, as long as her parents (31 years). It's not that Jessica doesn't believe in romance, but she believes more in love that is embedded in the sacred of the ordinary. In the contented, peaceful silence of their predictable, boring day, she chooses him all over again.
