Every Moment Is a Gift

Gleaned from O Magazine (July/August 2000) article By Oprah

Oprah describes how after John F. Kennedy Jr's untimely death in a plane crash, she thought of John’s calendar, his schedule, his to-do lists. She then thought of her own and how, in an instant, all of that means nothing.

“Tomorrow is not promised, nor is today. So I choose to celebrate every day I’m alive by being present in it. Living in the moment means letting go of the past and not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breathe is a gift.

“Living in the moment brings you a sense of reverence for all of life’s blessings.

“When you live in the moment, you don’t put off enjoying your life.”

Oprah told of a man who lost his cashmere scarf while shopping for a less expensive one so he wouldn’t wear out his good one. The man failed to learn the lesson from his experience, and Oprah pointed it out to him – “use your good things now.”
