I would have thought that most people with common sense would naturally accept the self-evident truth of the following statements. Unfortunately our current government doesn't have much common sense (or else they just have their own agendas) and through their actions have proven these statements to be true.
Reverend
William John Henry Boetcker (Presbyterian minister) produced a booklet in 1916
which contained this collection of maxims:
Ten
Things You Cannot Do
You
cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You
cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You
cannot help little men by tearing down big men
You
cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling down the wage payer.
You
cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You
cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
You
cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You
cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
You
cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and
independence.
You
cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do
for themselves.
