Spooning

Spooning

by Judith A. Middlebrooks

When my man and I lie down at night we perform the ballet of love.
My back glued to his front, no space, and no air, just love, blessed from above.
I turn over, he turns over, and our bodies like magnets find that curvature, so perfect so succinct.
Our eyes are closed, yet we flip and flop throughout the night, still catching those twenty winks.

When he is holding me in his arms I feel perfectly safe and warm.
I know at that moment that nothing; absolutely nothing can cause me harm.
I allow all of my worries to escape and live in my fantasy world.
For when I am in his arms, that is my gem so much more precious than a diamond or a pearl.

We rotate like synchronized swimmers throughout the night endlessly.
We hold each other, feel each other, breathe, and live each other so carefully.
There is so much movement in one night to our dance, yet so perfect and divine.
I am convinced he is my soul mate, kindred spirit, that one of a kind.

How can anyone sleep in the same bed with his or her mate and lie on separate sides?
That is like watching the ocean forever still, no movement, no waves, and no tides.
Hold your mate and allow your bodies to become one, back to front, front to back alternating.
Throughout the night hear loves sweet song that plays to the movement of your bodies gently rotating.

Allow the heat and energy of your mate's body to rejuvenate you.
I am not talking about the act of sex, or kissing, or even cuddling.
I am speaking of the rejuvenation that comes to trees and rose bushes with pruning.
That wonderful, delightful, energetic yet restful, artful sleep dance of spooning.

Oh how I can relate to this! I too can’t understand why anyone would “sleep in the same bed with his or her mate and lie on separate sides”! This is what I look forward to the most.

As we drift in and out of sleep - touching, talking, holding, sharing, and cherishing each other - there is NO other place in the world I would rather be. It is a way to express and to experience our love for each other. And it renews and strengthens our bond.

It is what God intended.
